Penitentes are a snow formation found at high altitudes. They take the form of tall thin blades of hardened snow or ice. The name comes from the resemblance of a field of penitentes to a crowd of people kneeling.

Open books are a prominent theme in 40k. You see open books strapped to standards, pauldrons, and on the cover of Into the Storm, on the front of a heavy bike.
For some reason it makes me wonder: just how literate is the average Imperial citizen that they’re impressed by what’s essentially “Look, WORDS!”?
