FAKE IT: Walking the Walk – Five Ways to Move Like A Soldier
Walking the Walk – Five Ways to Move Like A Soldier
Soldiers spend months training to march, stand and fight Army style. They acquire tics and habits of motion which are unmistakable to the trained eye. Actors spend weeks studying to play a role, observing and developing those tics until they can say “Military” with body language alone.
But you don’t have weeks or months! You are a super busy LARPer human who barely has time to look at cute cat pics on Tumblr between composing your filk and sewing your new doublet! Instead, you have come to read LARPHacks, which will provide you with five quick tricks to iconically portray “soldier” in your body language and physical habits, without going through all the hassle of learning drill or fighting!
These cadets do not have the benefit of LARPHacks, so to achieve military bearing they must spend months on the drill square being shouted at by an angry NCO. Aren’t you glad you’re not them?
A side-by-side comparison showing the similarities between Type II and Type I HEMA.

All my lovely super-talented colleagues from Big Hero 6 are sharing their sexy paintings and glamorous linework, so I thought I’d leap on the bandwagon like a socially awkward Quasimodo and wave my hair diagrams around. These were done for most of the main characters so their hair could be built in 3D in a way that would behave realistically when put through the simulation process. Each clump of hair needed to be placed and plotted so the layers built up in a way that reflected Shiyoon’s designs. It was a challenge but kinda fun for all that … I won’t get to see how it turned out until January, when the film comes out in the UK, but I hear people like it, so that’s good.

This amazing process happens because of oxygen. the stuff you breathe every moment of every day while you’re alive. amazing the things we take for granted.
